Coverage extension
A single router rarely covers a whole space evenly, especially with multiple floors or thick walls involved.
The specialist measures signal strength across the whole space and figures out where an access point is missing: sometimes it's a separate room, sometimes just a corner behind a column or the bar.
Extra access points or repeaters get added, all running on the same network as the main router. That way a guest doesn't have to switch networks walking from the entrance to the back of the room.
At a two-story shop, Wi-Fi barely reached upstairs, and the cashier had to go downstairs every time just to ring up a sale over mobile data. After adding a second access point, upstairs worked just as well as downstairs.
In the end, the Wi-Fi works just as well everywhere in the space, not just near the router.
